China’s Economic Supertrends Featured in Global Times

Jason Inch’s new book, China’s Economic Supertrends, to be published April 18th, was featured in the Global TimesĀ  this week, in the April 16th print edition.

For those who might have missed it, here is a link to the article online.

Reporter Shen Shushu has written an excellent overview of the book and mentioned some of the reasons Jason wrote a new book on China’s economy in 2012, even though he had been writing about these trends since 2008′s Supertrends of Future China:

As [China's Economic Supertrends] states, “between now and 2018, there exist myriad challenges and opportunities for business people, investors and individuals who want to profit from China’s transformation.” This new book interprets the next phase of China’s economic development until 2018 from different angles, including such aspects as growth engines and China’s five-year “road maps.”

Jason also offered some practical advice in the interview:

“For newcomers to China, Inch suggests a careful study of each of the 12 five-year plans made by the different levels of governments since the CCP took power in China. “It is the road map telling you in what fields the government encourages development which means there is space for business opportunities,” he told the Global Times.

One small correction: The article stated that China’s Demographic Supertrends and China’s Political Supertrends were the previous titles in the series. In fact, these will be released later in 2012 as volumes two and three respectively. We hope readers look forward to reading all three exciting offerings from independent economist and professor Jason Inch.

Written by independent China economist, consultant and author Jason Inch, who has had over eight years of on-the-ground experience doing business in China, this book will introduce readers to the key economic trends that are reshaping China from the inside out. A frequent speaker on China’s economy and doing business in China, as well as an instructor at Shanghai’s Jiaotong University MBA-C program, Jason has studied China’s economy since 1992 and has been based in Asia for more than 15 years. This is his second book.

Asked why he wrote this book now, he responded, “China’s Economic Supertrends is based on the work that Dr. James Yuann and I did for our first book, Supertrends of Future China, in 2008. Despite the effects of the global financial crisis, China’s economy has continued to perform well and many readers have commented on the accuracy of our original predictions. However, in just over four years, there have been so many new opportunities in China’s business and macroeconomic environment that I had to share those ideas in a new book with a new structure and deeper analysis. China’s economy is undoubtedly the most important economy in Asia for businesspeople, investors, entrepreneurs and individuals looking for new opportunities or directions.”
